You're Being in UP is Not Enough

When I graduated two years ago I had nothing particular in mind of what I'm gonna do. I just relied on the fact that my parents approved (uh, more of, like, "convinced") of my attendance to a one-year training in IT. Some people then just had to ask, "Why are you taking this? You're a CS graduate, right?" I think I've made a handful versions of my reason but everything simply boils down to this: It's none of your business. I can afford the tuition. That's why. So shut it.

As I carried on with the program, I realized more reasons previously unrevealed. Setting the IT certification (which is apparently hardly recognized as of writing) and Nihongo (oh, yeah) classes aside, I found the things I learned in my four years in Miami, in a way, lacking. "So that's why some are eager to proceed to a Masters Degree," I thought. True enough, at the end of the program, I could say that I'm ready to take on anything. As they say, "Bring it on, itch."

After graduating from a tertiary education for the second time four months ago, I went home to the Land of Promise and spent a whooping two months of rest. Many regarded me as too confident. That may be true, but not really. I was only thinking that even if it's the end of the world tomorrow, employers will still hire someone to hire today. And I...deserved some rest. My job-hunt excursion has taught me a lot. Here's a list of tips for those of my kind, an iskolar ng bayan.

The fact that you studied (and graduated, if applicable) in the University of the Philippines won't be enough. Graduate on time and don't fail a single subject. Some companies actually put high regard to those who don't have any failing grade. And besides, there are, say, three other titan universities, you know...

Participate in extracurricular activities. Constructing your resume as a fresh graduate can be very tough as you basically don't have any work experience at all. That's why you compensate it when the best things you did while in college. Luckily for me, the training did it all.

Make your resume standout. I'd have to admit I had to spend a day or two researching and learning how to make it very effective. As what my classmate who's currently working in a multinational company advised, "It's your passport." I ended up with the one below.
Do appropriately. If you're applying for a Business Analyst position, don't include in your resume your skills in playing the piano blindfoldedly.

Come on time for your interviews. You have Google Maps to thank for that. Man, how I was able to appreciate it! It's just so wicked that even St. Mike's and Upper Valley in the dorm area is on it!

Always bring with you your updated resume. Don't assume that because you submitted it online, the person who'll get the freak out of you (okay, the one who'll interview you) also happens to have it. And a valid ID too!

Acknowledge every notification from interested employers. A simple "Thank you for the update" will do. Similarly, update them at least a day earlier if you won't be able to make it to your appointment and ask for a possible reschedule.

Practice but don't memorize what you're to say. Be spontaneous and bore a hole into the interviewer's eyes. "Tell me about yourself," is the most classic example. In the many interviews that I've killed, I've actually only answered this overrated Q twice. And oh, answer in the language you're asked.

I had my first contract signing this morning. The search is over. I look forward to being regularized in six months. This post may be out of time, but I just can't wait for the graduation month to have this, can I? At any rate, I hope you found this post interesting.

For the time being, enjoy what college life has to offer. You are bound to definitely miss it. By "enjoy" I mean academics too. See you in the industry after four years then! (Yes, I am telling you to graduate on time.)

Halos lahat na siguro ng studyante dito sa unibersidad ay dumaan sa prosesong ito. And definitely, it's one of the most unforgettable part of one's freshman year or even college years. This is everyone's first time to meet all of their batchmates. Hopefully, after 4 or 5 years you'll see the same faces again, but this time the meeting place would be different; this time it would be in the UPV Grandstand. And this time, it would be a different occasion. It would be you're graduation day. Ang layo na ng naabot ng usapang ito. haha.

Hello mga FRESHIES! I’m your Ate CHILL (wee “ate” haha. Totoong pangalan ko ‘to, gusto nyo pa ng valid ID? Hahaha kiddin’ ^^). Like you, isa ako sa mga napagpalaang makakuha ng slots sa nagiisang BEST DORM: ang FRESHMEN HALL 1. Kaya lang hindi nyo na masusulyapan ang pinakapangit kong mukha sa kadahilanang nangibang isla na ako para makahanap ng mas matinong trabaho.. (Charing haha…)

Isa lang naman ako sa dumadaming ibong lumilipana sa kadiliman. Inaamin kong isa ito sa pinkamahirap na desisyong ginawa ko sa buong buhay ko. Kailangan kong mang-iwan ng mga kaibigan, ng mga nakagisnan, at mga pangakong hindi sana mapapako. Ang hirap pala, honestly. Haha

Pero ang punto ng pagsulat ko ng artikulong ito ay hindi para isiwalat ang aking konting kadramahan. Gusto ko lang sanang makapagiwan sa inyo ng mga Survival tips na pwedeng nyong gamitin anytime habang kayo’y nakikipagspalaran sa una ‘nyong taon. Sa tingin ko kasi, sa pamamagitan nito, hindi ako yung tipong nangiiwan lang sa wala. Sana makatulong ‘to. ^^

Una sa lahat, Congratulations dahil napabilang kayo sa cream of the CROP sa buong Pilipinas – isa lang naman sa mga pinakasimpleng dahilan kung bakit andito kayo ngayon sa UP! Sa una ninyong taon, siguradong marami kayong matututunan. Nakakatakot ito xempre sa una. Katulad ninyo, naranasan ko din ang mga unang araw ng pangungulila sa bahay at mga kaibigan noong highschool. Kinabahan din ako sa kung ano ang mangyayari sakin sa unang araw ng pasukan, sa mga napabalitang Terror teachers, sa pressures ng school work. Pero okay lang ‘yan mga bagong BEST dormers. Siguradong maeenjoy nyo naman ang isang tao ng pagkawalay sa pamilya kapiling ang mga dormates ninyo, staff at upperclassmen (na patuloy na gagabay sa inyo from other dorms/bhauses/apartments/atbp.) ng Hall 1. Heto ang naiisip kong survival tips para sa mga nahohomesick, naliligaw, at nababagot kung weekend. (Pero I’m sure, hindi naman kayo mababagot sa bahay ng mga IDOL syempre haha)

Survival Tip 1

Recommended sa mga homesick

Go out... and make FRIENDS. Hindi lang sa mga roommates at dormmates mo kundi pati na rin sa mga dormers/residents ng “other” dorms/apartments. Hahaha Huwag ding mahiyang makipagkaibigan sa mga uppies, especially ang mga dating nagHall 1. Marami silang makwekwento senyo ukol sa mga experiences nila na pwede niyong magagamit sa susunod.

Survival Tip 2

Recommended sa mga nawawala at naliligaw

IF in doubt, ASK! Huwag mahiyang magtanong. Mababait ang mga nilalang ng UPV mapaestudyante man o profs o staff. Kahit ang mga drivers, mapajeepney man or tricycle ay sadyang matutulungin. Pero kung gusto niyong makasigurado, magtanong na lang kayo sa mga staff on duty ng Hall 1: Manang Mic, Manang Gina, Manang Vi, Manong Larry, at Manong Boyet… pili lang ahaha. Of course pwede din sa pinakadakilang dormhead ng bulwagang ito: Si Mam Aster Tronco. Haha Sumadya din kayo kay Mam Pador or Mam Isay sa CUB basement kung may oras kayo. Siguradong matutulungan kayo nila sa maraming bagay.

Survival Tip 3

Recommended sa mga nababagot at hindi nakakauwi kung weekends especially mga TUBONG MINDANAO (yeah!^^), CEBUANO, BOLANON, PALAWAN-ON, NEGRENSE, SOUTHERN LEYTE NO, atbp.

MAHILIG SA ADVENTURE? Magnature tripping SA OWL, HILL 17, FISH BUKID, at MATHEMATICS HILL. Marami pang sights ang pwedeng makita sa UPV (hindi ko nga lang napuntahan yung iba… hmmn). Pero so far, itong apat ang pwede kong irecommend sa inyo. Kung nature tripping at hiking talaga yung hanap nyo, punta kayo ng HILL 17, FISH BUKID, MATHEMATICS HILL, Kung feel nyo magswimming, lakarin nyo na lang (pwede din magtryc) papuntang OWL or OCEAN WEATHER LAB (dagat lang ‘to, huwag matakot sa pangalan haha). Magdala ng snacks, banig, or anything useful and entertaining. Tiyak na maeenjoy nyo ang alon at sea breeze. Huwag nga lang maxadong magpakalayo sa dagat. Magingat sa pagswimming. ^^

MAHILIG SA SPORTS? Maglaro ng Basketball sa Covered court at Football naman sa Field na pwede lang lakarin mula Hall 1. Gusto mo magswimming? Pwede na din siguro sa OWL. (try nyo… hahaha) Pwede ding maglaro sa Inner court at Gaddam road (Siguraduhing may permit at hindi mainit ang ulo ng driver ng kotse na dadaan. Bakit Gaddam road? Mahabang istorya. Magtanong na lang kayo sa mga dating hall 1 pipz regarding dyan. hahaha). Naalala ko last year naglaro kami ng CHOCO, partintero, at iba pang Larong Pinoy noong HALL1MPICS at kahit noong weekends. Try nyo ‘to. Makakapagbond kayo ng Bonggang bongga. Haha

NAMIMISS ANG CITY? Magtricycle ka hanggang BOX 1 or Plaza. Kung nagmamadali ka, magBOX 1 ka. May dumadaan ditong bus, at San Joaquin (jeep ito na parang eroplano sa bilis sobra! haha). Siguraduhing nakahawak ka ng mahigpit sa railings. Kung sa Plaza ka naman bababa, may pumaparadang Miagao jeep dun pacity. Ipagtanong mo na lang sa mga tagacity kung ano yung mga jeep na sasakyan sa kung saan mo man gusto pumunta. MapaUP, SM, Rob, o Super. Kaya nyo yan! ^^

Survival Tip 4

Recommended sa mga walang magawa at nagugutom.

Sumadya kayo sa LOLA’s, HEAVEN’S BLISS, ZIP ZAP, o CDH. Sila lang naman yung pinkamalapit na chibugan sa Dorm area. Mas malapit nga lang ang LOLA’s sa Hall 1 kaya siguradong magiging tambayan nyo ito. May iba pang pagkainan sa Banwa na pwede mong sadyain kung sakaling may budget ka pa para magfood trip: OMPS, Bentoy’s, Green ribbon, Sari-sari, Vineyard, BurgerMac, MacBridge, Jed’s, at Hilltop. Huwag matakot mawala. Hagugulin ang natitirang espasyo sa banwa. Explore!

Survival Tip 5

Recommended kung may power interruption o, sa madaling salita, “brown-out”. ^^

Sa umaga:

Magpicnic sa Inner Court. Maglabas ng banig, newspapers, o plywood (humingi ng permiso muna sa staff bago gamitin ang nahuli), fully-charged laptop/cellphone, and play some songs. Ilabas ang tinatagong Food stocks at ishare sa buong barangay. Naalala ko yung Ginanggang party namin last year. (Ginanggang - Minadanaoan delicacy: “saba” banana on stick grilled to perfection and clothed with margarine/butter and sugar madness. Yum! haha^^) Naglaro din kami ng cards at Choco that time. Grabe! Sobrang saya ‘nun! Kung gusto nyong malaman ang buong kaganapan sa okasyong ito, basahin nyo na lang ang previous articles na nakapost sa site na ito.

Pwede ding Matulog sa Canopy, magpunta sa OWL, maghiking, magchibugan at kung ano pa ang pwede nyong maisip na tripping. Pakaisipin lang palagi na may mga tripping na kailangan ng permiso mula sa staff. Higit sa lahat, magingat kayo palagi.

Sa Gabi:

Magstargazing sa Gaddamroad (ang daanan sa harapan ng hall 1). Ilabas ang mga dalang gitara at magpractice ng pangharana sa lobby with other dormers. Pwede ding maglaro ng cards o mag ghost-story-telling sa canopy… bagay talaga ‘to sa setting especially with candles around. Haha creepy…

Survival Tip 6

Recommended sa mga hindi sure, natatakot, nababagabag at nagsosoul-searching

Hindi ka pa sigurado sa kurso mo? May nais ka bang patunayan pero hindi mo magawa? Naghahanap ng kasagutan? Isa lang ang marerecommend ko sa’yong solusyon… Magcounselling ka! Now na! ^^

Punta ka ng CUB at hanapin si Mam Pador o Mam Isay sa CUB basement. Kilalanin nyo din ang ibang Uppies na dating nagholwan baka sakaling makatulong din sila in terms of acads, advices, lovelife, etc. Huwag mahiyang magpatutor sa kanila in case nahihirapan talaga kayo sa Math (agree agree ^^), Chem, Physics, atbp. Magpaclose din kayo kay Mam Tronco. Ang dami kong natutunan sa kanya super. haha Alamin kung ano ang mas nararapat mong gawin. Timbangin kung ano o saan ang tamang daan. Just always keep your feet on the ground, ok? ^^

Hmmn… may nakalimutan pa ba ako? hahaha Hindi ko siguro masasagot ang lahat ng katanungan ‘ninyo. May mga kasagutan naman kasi na kailangan ng involvement ng sarili diba? Siguro kayo na din bahala magexplore sa bulwagan ng kuro-kuro. I’ll leave that to your Smart UPCAT-passing minds .^^

Huling habilin: Pakiisipin na ang tunay na rason kung bakit kayo nandito ay hindi para magbakasyon at magenjoy lamang. Academics first, ok? Palagi dapat itong nauuna sa istahan ng priorities nyo. Smile palagi . ^^

High School Day '09

Highschool life o my highschool life. “Haiiii!, wish we could turn back time.” Ganito ang mga pangarap ng mga estudyante lalong lalo na yung mga college students. Ibang iba kasi yung college life sa highschool life. Ibang level na kase ang college sa highschool, kasi naman, dito natin nararanasan ang mga pasakit ng mga tao bago sila makipagsapalaran sa mas malaki at totoong mundo sa labas ng apat na sulok ng mga silid aralan ng mga unibersidad at magtrabaho.

Noong ika-24 ng Nobyembre naging Masaya ang lahat ng mga dormers nung nalaman nila na may parating na High School Day na activity dito sa best dorm, HALL 1. Nagsimula ang lahat sa pag hahanap ng kanilang uniporme. Nagsiuwian ang iba at ang iba naman ay tumawag para mapadala ang kanilang uniporme. Handang handa na talaga ang lahat. Mapa blouse, palda, cravat/ribbon or anu man tawag nila, medyas, sapatos, id at pati na rin ang mga abubot nila sa katawan, sa buhok mn o sa mukha basta highschool student ang porma. Nakakatuwang isipin na lahat ay galak na galak sa parating na activity.

The day before ng activity merong ibang nagsasabi na “hindi ako makatulog”, alam nyo kung bakit? “ kase naeexcite na talaga ako sa activity bukas, yung High School Day!” Miss na kasi nila maguniform at magporma ala highschool student. Haiii naku talaga naman, sino naman ang hindi maeexcite sa mga activity ng Hall1 e kasi puno ng mga supresa at maraming kaechosan ang mga actibidad nila. Meron namang nagsasabi na nahihiya silang lumibot sa UP campus na nakauniform. Ang masasabi lang ng ibang mga dormers ay “wag na lang siyang mahiya kasi hindi naman siya ang nag iisang lumilibot sa campus na nakauniporme”. We are all 1 at Hall 1. Oh diba?One for all, all for one ang dating.

GOOD MORNING!

”Yey!masusuot ko ulit uniporme ko. After how many years!”hahaha..dali dali silang naligo at nagbihis. O ang ingay na nila sa labas, nagsisipag chika na at nagsisipag describe na ng mga uniforms ng isa’t isa.

Buong araw kami sa CAS/SOTECH/CFOS na naglilibot na nakauniporme. Iba’t ibang reaction ang makikita sa mga taong nakakasalubong namin. Maski na ang mga kaklase at guro ay nagsipag komentaryo na rin sa suot naming uniporme. Nakakatuwang isipin na meron akong naririnig na gusto rin nilang masuot muli ang kanilang uniporme nung high school, besides kahit anong klaseng damit pwede mo naman masuot dito sa UP diba?

Sa gabing yaon ay nagsipaghanda na ang lahat dahil mag-uumpisa na ang sinasabing aktibidad. Picture dito picture doon. Hai talaga tong mga hall 1 dormers ayaw magpaawat sa pagpapapicture. Mga PHOTOGENIC kasi mga hall 1, este mga papicture adik pala.Haha.. Syempre kakabit na ng buhay high school student ang flag ceremony kaya talagang patutuhanan ang panunumbalik natin sa pagka-high school, nag-umpisa ang actibidad kinahapunan sa pagkanta ng ating pambansang awit. Meron ding konting exercise para maenergize tayong mga Hall1. At pagkatapos nito ay pagsasalamat sa Dakilang Panginoon. Syempre dapat lang natin pasalamatan ang Panginoon Diyos. Oh di ba? High school na high school ang atmosphere. Tapos merong seremonyang napakaseryoso na hindi ko na alam kung pano ko siya madedescribe, tinatawag nila ‘yung ecumenical service bilang pagbibigay pugay at pasasalamat sa Panginoon. Kahit saang reiyon at relihiyon man tayo galing, iisang DIYOS pa rin ang pinupuntahan natin kung tayo’y humaharap sa matinding mga pagsubok ng buhay. Pagkatapos ng pagseseryoso ay pumunta naman kami sa masayang bahagi ng programa. Una ay ang pagkilala sa mga emcees. Lalong lalo na itong si Mamita, Ay Grabeeh! Saan ka ba naghigh school, Mamita? Pagkatapos naman ay ang pagpapakita ng girls and boys wing presentation. Ibang performance level na talaga to, mga kaibigan. O talaga naman oh! Haha..Pagkatapos nun ay hindi rin nagpaawat ang House Council pati na rin ang mga Upperclassmen.

Nang matapos na ang lahat, nag awarding na sila. Oh diba! Parang recognition lang noong high school. May award-awards pang nalalaman. Siyempre hindi ko alam kung ano ang mga criteria nila. Bigla lang silang nagsabi ng rank ng isang dormer at binigyan yung taong tinawag nila ng “medal”. By the way, ang galing galing talaga ng mga upperclass mag-isip ng material pang award! So RESOURCEFUL! Love it!

Ayan na! Blessings from the Lord, umabon talaga! Pumasok kami at doon na lang kami sa lobby nagpatuloy ng programa. Akala ko tapos na ang lahat, yun pala ay hindi pa. Bitin kasi pag natapos naman ng maaga ang programa, buti na lang may game na hinanda ang mga upperclass, yun ay ang pagvi-videoke ng mga dormers na mabubunot ang kanyang/kanilang pangalan. Ang saya talaga, kahit ang mga ibang dormers ay nagsisipagsabay na rin sa kantahan. Dito na nagsilabasan ang mga talento ng dormers sa pagkanta. Ang galing galing talaga nila! ‘Di lang ‘yun may mga love team pang nadi-discover ha. Ahemmm. ‘Di ko talaga makalimutan kung paano titigan ni Marc Troi si Bea nung mag-duet sila. Halos ‘di maawat ang lahat sa katitili. Kahit ang mga taga-boy’s wing panalo sa hiyawan at kanchawan. Support kumbaga. Talagang madaming pusong napaglapit dahil sa kapangyarihan ng musika anu – puso ng pagkakaibigan at kapatiran mapaloob man at hanggang sa labas ng Hall1.

Haayy naku! Sana maulit naman ito ulit. Mamimiss talaga namin ang Hall 1. “You’re the BEST!”

Hello Luzon! Hello Visayas! Hello Mindanao! Siguro malilito kayo sa mga katagang naisawalat ko sa itaas. Ano ba naman ang koneksyon ng nakaraan sa kung ano mang echos ang tatalakayin ko ngayon? At ano ba ang koneksyon ng mga kapuluan at ng bayang sinalangan sa kung ano mang katarantaduhang pinaplano kong isali sa blog na ito?

Simple lang ang kasagutan mga kapwa BEST DORMERS, mga kaibigan, atbp.: Ibubulgar ko lang naman kung ano ang mga pangyayari noong Sem beginner. At dahil tunay ngang napakainit sa Miami, at ibig ng mga dormers na maging sporty, napagkasunduan ng House Council na tawagin itong MIAMI HEAT ’09.

Pansamantalang nahati ang mga dormers ayon sa kanilang lupang sinalangan: LUZON, ILOILO A, ILOILO B, NEGROS, GUIBOSOLEY (Guimaras, Bohol, Southern Leyte), AKLAN, at CAPIZ-ANTIQUE. Ang bawat pangkat ay pinayuhang magdala ng pasalubong bago matapos ang unang semestre para maibahagi sa ibang dormers sa pamamagitan ng Food Expo. Ngunit mas kinapanabiknabikan ang talaga namang pinaghandaang presentasyon ng bawat grupo na siyang isuspoil ko sa mga sumusunod na talata.

Ala – una ng hapon:

Nagkakandarapa ang mga House Council sa paghahanda ng Inner Court. Bakas sa mga hitsura nila ang pagkasabik at pati na rin ng pangamba sa palapit nang okasyon na opisyal na magbubukas ng mga aktibidades ng Castillo de Placuna Placenta sa ikalawang semestre ng taon. Naprapraning lang siguro ang mga kabataan. Hindi ko nga lang alam kung anong dahilan sa likod ng pagkapraning ng mga ito. ^^

Alas sais ng gabi:

Sabik na sabik na nagbihis ng mga jerseys at mini skirts ang mga Best Dormers. Hayaan nyo akong ilahad ang taksonomiya ng mga nilalang ng mga oras na iyon: May mga players ng iba’t ibang isports, mga Cheerleaders, at mga karaniwang audience na game na game namang nagdala ng mga cartolina at props na naglalahad ng suporta nila sa kung sino man ang gusto nilang suportahan. (Duh… haha)

Alas syete ng gabi…

Sa hindi inaasahang pagkakataon, nawala ang mga sotech at upperclass sa kadahilanang may Victory Party ang una, at may Peer Counselors’ meeting ang huli. Kaya naglaro na lamang ng HEP – HEP HORRAY ang mga dormers. Naging “Crowd favorite” ika nga, si Nicolo, ngunit sa huli, nanalo pa rin ang batikang si Roren Keisha Yap na siya ring nanalo sa Hep hep horray version ng ROTC. Isa na namang pambihirang talento ang nadiskubre sa loob ng Bahay ni IDOL… weee ^^

Alas Ocho ng gabi…

Sa wakas at opisyal na nagsimula na nga ang pinakahihintay na programa! Ngunit bago ‘yon, atat na atat na nagsilabasan ng pasalubong ang mga dormers at taus-puso rin nilang pinaganda ang mga lamesang magsisilbing booths nila para sa food expo. Kulang man sila sa mga ilaw na kinakailangan, lubos namang kinareer ng mga dormers ang okasyong ito. Nakakatuwa ang konsepto ng bawat pangkat. May mala-gubat, may brownout, at may mala-tourism expo. Oh diba? Bongga… haha

Ngunit sa isang pambihirang pagkaktaon… biglang nabaling ang atensyon ng lahat sa isang malaking sorpresa. Biglang nagsibalikan ang lahat sa kani-kanilang mga upuan at biglang nanahimik sa pagdating ng dyosa… (tantarantan…)

At siya ay walang iba kundi ang nakakaaliw, nakakawindang, at nagiisang si MAMITA!! Siya lang naman ang emcee ng gabing iyon, kaya mas napasaya pa ang naturang okasyon dahil sa mga sorpresa nya… tenkyu MAMITA!! ^^

Pagkatapos ng napakalaking sorpresa, nagsimula na nga ang presentayon ng mga magkababayan. Lubos namang naenjoy ng lahat ang pinaghandaang sorpresa ng mga dormers. May mga sumayaw, may sadyang naligo sa hose, may nagsalita sa unang pagkakataon ( kaya mo yan Carissa…kaya mo yan Carina ^^), may nagbeauty pageant, at xempre hindi mawawala ang ati-atihan, na kung saan tinampok ang Hall1 Akeaenon version ng BROD, BRO, at BRU! Sa uulitin, hayaan nyo akong ispoil ang mga linyang binatawan ng mga kakaibang nilalang na lubos na tumatak sa aking isipan. Hulaan nyo na lang kung sino man ang nakapagbitaw ng mga sumusunod :

“Hoy mga TAGABUKID! Humanda kayo sa Luzon!!!”

Ngunit wala pa ring tatalo sa pinkamasayang parte ng gabing iyon. At iyon ay naisagawa sa pangunguna ng dakilang si MAMITA:

GUYS! WHO WANTS TO HAVE A WET PARTY?!

… at nagwala na ang posong kanina pang ibig magsalita… kasabay ng pagwala ng dakilang dormers…of course dahil sa sobrang saya.

Ang matigas na bitak ng lupa ng inner court ay naging madulas…kasabay ng pagagos ng laway ng posong kanina pang nanahimik ngunit nagambala sa isang pambihirang pagkakataon. Sa mahigit kumulang na 3 oras ay napuno ng banderas ang washroom. Poor poso… at least nakapagbigay siya ng ENJOYMENT sa best dormers for one time. Salamat Manang Tech ^^.

Oh diba? Napkasaya talaga ng mga tagpo sa nag-iisang BEST DORM. Nahati nga ang dormers sa mga grupo at magkababayan, ngunit taliwas sa paghahating naganap nung gabing iyon, napatunayan pa rin ng Dormers na nananatili pa rin ang HALL 1 SPIRIT sa kanilang mga puso lalung-lalo na sa ipinakitang partisipasyon nila sa mga aktibidades ng programa sa gabing iyon.

LAST MORNYT sa BEST DORM

I could choose to spend the last few days of this sem somewhere sa Negros -- bonding with my batchmates, swimming and hiking. But, naahhh, if i did that for sure mas magsisi at mahihinayang ako. Why? Simple lang, kasi spending the remaining days of this sem sa Hall1 will be one of the best days of my life. hmmm* And, indeed, Mr.Kapalaran never failed me. Kung ikaw ang makakakita ng mga nakita ko nung gabing iyun, tiyak 'di mo na nanaising umalis ng Hall1. . .at kung nagyari sa'yo ang mga tagpong ito noong gabing iyun, tiyak di mo na nanaiising mawalay pa sa Hall1.

30-March-2010. Tuesday. Sa lobby. Bandang alas-ocho y medya ng gabi. . .

Masaya kaming nagki-kwentuhan sa lobby sabay nood ng tv. Pasa-pasahan ng laptop para tumingin ng grades sa CRS. Kwentuhan. Tawanan. Tuksuhan sa newly-discovered at blooming-na-blooming "JENrec" loveteam. Naglalaro kami ng tong-its nina KYLE at ledrick. Nagpapraktis ng harana piece niya si Pio with Kuya Azin, at nakikisali rin kami ng kanta ha..hmmm* 'Di mabasol!~ Nagpatuloy ang mga tagpo at eksenang ito hanggang magising si manong larry bandang 11:30 ng gabi. Wala naman syang nagawa. Pinahinaan nya na lang ang volume ng TV at bumalik sa kawrto nya.. Haha!*

At dahil mejo inaantok na ako, kumuha ako ng unan sa kawrto at dinala sa lobby habang patuloy kaming naglalaro. Hanggang sa di ko na namalayang nakatulog na ako sa couch sa lobby. Mag-a-alas-dos na nang magising ako. Medyo nagulat ako sa tagpong aking kinamultan. Nakahiga na si Jenny Vi sa sahig, na may foam naman. hehe. I was wondering kung saang kwarto nya yun kinuha...malamang sa kwarto nila. Ano bah!? Duh!* Sunod kong nakita si Ledrick na palabas ng girl's wing at may dala-dalang foam. At syempre, alam nyu na ang sumunod na tagpo..hmmmm...* * *

Habang si Kyle naman ay busy sa pag-i-emote sa facebook. Sino ang online nung gabing 'yun at nakawitness ng kaemohan ni Kyle? Maari lang pong pakitaas ng kanang paa!haha*

Sandali pang ako'y nanood ng tv. Marahil ay nakaramdam na rin ng antok, maya-maya pa'y tumabi na si Kyle kay Ledrick para matulog.

Dahil hindi pa ako nakakapagligpit ng mga gamit at magsasara na ang dorm nung araw na iyun, pumasok muna ako sa kawrto para mag-ayos. Hindi ko malaman sa anong kadahilanan at namimihasa ang pag-atake ng aking katamaran, kaya naiisipan kong makinig ng music habang nag-aayos. Nang lumabas na ako para kunin ang laptop sa lobby, di pa tuluyang nakatulog si Kyle. Naitanong ko pa sa kanya ang mga nagyari habang tulog ako kanina.

Ilang oras ang lumipas nang maisipan ko uling lumabas sa lobby para makipag-chismisan kay Kyle dahil nakakatamad talagang magligpit.

Nagulantang ako sa sunod kong nakita. Hindi ko inaasahan ang mga tagpong bumungad sa aking mga inosenteng mata.

Pumalit na sa puwesto ko si Kyle. At eto na nga! Hindi na mapipigilan pa.

Sayang nga lang at mababa ang resolutiong ng cam ko. Haha! Pero it's woth the watch naman di bah!?Oh well...

Sabi ko nga kanina, if hindi ko piniling manatili sa dorm, hindi ko masasaksihan ang mga tagpong ito. Hindi ko mararanasang magulantang nang ganoon. At talagang bumangon ang napupuyat at tinatamad kong espiritu ha.* lol.

Again. . .
*Kung ikaw ang makakakita ng mga nakita ko nung gabing iyun, tiyak 'di mo na nanaising umalis ng Hall1. . .hindi mo na nanaisin pang umalis at lumabas dahil wala ka na tiyak mukahang mailalabas.

*Kun nagyari sa'yo ang mga tagpong ito noong gabing iyun, tiyak di mo na nanaiising mawalay pa sa Hall1. . .dahil sa oras na mawalay ka tiyak pagpi-piyestahan ang mga larawan mong ito.

OMFG!

The Balay Lampirong Open Room 2009

The dormers have always been restricted to their respective wings for almost the entire first sem. Of course, it is inevitable that the boys get curious of what’s in the Girls’ Wing, and the girls with the Boys’ Wing. There may be times that girls enter the Boys’ Wing to buy cup noodles, chips and the like from Roy and Carlo, but the farthest they can get is the Boys’ Study Area. And so, what everyone has been waiting for, an annual activity for the 1^st sem, happened on 9.29.09. Entitled OMFG!, the Balay Lampirong held its Open Room activity.

This Open Room activity has been thoroughly planned by the House Council, so to make this event a very successful one. A week before OMFG!, Rea Chill, Roy, Carlo and I did one of the things we enjoy much as House Council- the Photoshoot. We took advantage of the time that there were only a few dormers that night, and let our creative juices do the work. Nicolo then showed his editing expertise through the Open Room teasers. As the first Open Room teaser was posted on the glass doors of the dorm, the freshmen dormers were quite curious and were left hanging of what was about to happen. Some upperclass knew what was about to happen. Some of them remained silent about it, but some dropped hints for the freshmen.

Every night for a week, at 8:00 pm, there was the MMMM, where the House Council fed the dormers (and non-dormers who were there during those times) through the paging system with gossips that kept them guessing who were in the blind items. Actually, most of these gossips were just made up by the Council. We just did that to heighten the curiosity of the dormers while secretly promoting the OMFG!, since the gossips were related to the Open Room.

The night before the Open Room, we, the House Council, locked ourselves in the Mini Lib so to prepare the announcements, rules, freebies and certificates for the Open Room. We quite felt that the dormers knew already what was about to happen in a few hours’ time, since when we passed by the hallways, we saw some dormers cleaning up and tidying their rooms. Most of us slept at 1 AM, and we even had some dormers who were “staying up to study” , but we knew that they just wanted to catch us. And so, we asked from Nong Larry that he would leave the doors of the wings open, so that we could go out and post announcements at 3:30 AM. Carlo and Rea Chill had a hard time debating with him to allow us.

By 3 AM, the House Council was up and about, posting announcements and preparing for the Open Room, going around, sneaking in the rooms. We had to work fast since people were starting to wake up, either to study, or to be the first people to invade the other wing’s rooms.We entered each room, but some dormers locked their doors, like Rooms 24 and 25 in the Boys’ Wing, and Rooms 4 and 11 in the Girls’ Wing. After we were done at around 4:30 to 5 AM, we slept in the Boys’ Study Area for the time being. At 6:30 AM, we had to wake up and get some decent sleep in our own rooms.

As noted, the earliest people to enter the rooms were JJ and Kuya Gierick. As the day progressed, the dormers really took advantage of the Open Room activity, staying in the rooms of the other wing. The upperclass group roamed around in the afternoon, and so did the Lampirong Boys. The event had to end at 8 PM, though. Some of the people who took advantage of the remaining time spent it by having a mini-party at Room 22, and who could ever forget the disco in Room 25, with the lights off, people dancing, and Kuya Azin doing “the mix”? Truly, this activity is one of the favorites of the dormers at date.

8:30 PM, the dormers were called to the Lobby for the awarding ceremony. The room which had the most awards for the Boys’ Wing was Room 24, and for the Girls’ Wing, Room 3. Everyone wished that everyday could be Open Room, because truly, it was an enjoyable one. But, this event is just a preparation for an even major event- the Open House! J

Last October 16, 2009 Hall 1 Balay Lampirong had successfully celebrated their sem-ender party entitled “ForGothory: Rest In Party”.

Just a simple rundown about what happened last Friday that made me say it was successful.

Early in the morning Chil, Pau, Nikkie with the help of the dormers little by little transformed Hall 1 lobby into gloomy and mysterious or in simpler terms, gothic-like place. Candles with red creep paper rolled and black Bats hanged off the ceilings. Lampshades wrap with red cellophane adds to the gothic-like ambiance. As for the final touches, pictures of the House Councils with Kuya Justin, that has been served as the publicity during the previous days made the setting ‘spooktacular’.

And so it happened, the most awaited part, the event it self. It started at approximately 7:00 PM with the dormers dressed at their best, with all the make ups and hair do’s that go with the theme. Black and white gowns with touches of red and dark colors for the girls, Jeans or long slacks and dark polo shirt for the boys, everybody really did prepare for the said affair. It was like a gathering of elite underground society.

But more than just the glamorous dresses were the activities prepared by the House Council. First was the surprised game… The Amazing Race! Who could have imagine that the dormers with their gowns and suits go running everywhere looking for their station.

~~~Mechanics of the Game~~~
The dorm was divided into five groups based on their respected wing. Then they were given clues that lead them to their station. Each station the dormers are bound to do the tasks prepared by the assigned dorm after which station they are to look for their missing member.

It was a battle of wits and skills as camaraderie and friendship were developed. They were all so competitive and very eager to win. It ran down with only two wings fighting for the first place, the lower wing boys and the lower wing girls. And to break the tie between the two, they were to find their respective wing reps hidden somewhere in the dorm. Names of their wing reps sitting near the emergency exits echoed the hallways of the dorm. Search. Search. Search. And it ended with the Lower Wing Boys as the champion.
Next on the list was the Treasure Hunting! With the name itself ‘treasure’ ‘hunting’, meaning hunting for treasure (lol). They were looking for the treasure hidden somewhere in the dorm with corresponding points for each article.

The event was closed with a short ceremony in the inner court. BONFIRE!!! Cool! Yes, you heard it right; we indeed lit up a small bonfire (not enough to burn the best dorm down) in the middle of the court. A small paper was distributed to each of the dormer that represents their angst, troubles, and burdens. As their pieces of paper burn to ashes in one way or the other will their problems disperse in the atmosphere of their hearts as the semester ends.

After which…. DISCO!!!!

‘Forgothory: Rest In Party’ was the best time where freshmen students finally unload themselves with the anxiety as they reload their baggage back for the semester break.

Famealy Day

Ang Isang pamilyang sabay kumakain ay sabay ring nabubusog.

I hope that was a very funny remark. Was that rub tickling? I hope so or else I will be kicked out of the dormitory. One of the things considered for you to be an upperclassman is to be amusing, intellectually or physically or both. Hee-Haw. Of course, it is our duty to make your stay here in the dormitory full of enjoyment and pleasantly entertaining. At the same time, it is like we are on the job training. Who knows? We will be the future comics of the country.

Last month, the House Council Officers of Castillo Del Placuna Placenta conducted the first-ever Famealy Day in the Best Dorm. I was surprised to see these publicities all over the dormitory inviting us to have dinner at the Common Dining Hall. I was clueless of what is going to happen. The only thought that I had in my mind was that we are just going to eat dinner together like a family. I guess they got the idea from the advertisement being shown in the television by one of the country’s leading producer of noodles. I am sorry. I do not know what the brand mark is. Lucky me or Maggi? It does not really matter anyway.

The Famealy Day turned out to be successful. Most of the dormers joined the activity and enjoyed having dinner with the Balay Lampirong Family. Everyone enjoyed not just because we were filled to satisfaction by the foods and drinks but also it was a chance for us to bond and spend quality time with our siblings in the dormitory. Aside from that, the food which was prepared was yummy and it even got yummier when our crushes are in front of us while we were eating. Joke. Oh boy. Crushes? That’s just temporary love of an adolescent. It could even not be love. Why do I talk about love anyway? What I wanted that through Famealy Day, we were able to make our social and emotional ties even deeper.

A family is social unit living together, right? Yes. We really are a family. We live under one rusty roof but do not sleep on the same bed of course. Oh wait. It just popped up out of nowhere. A family is made of a father, mother and children. Who are our parents? Do you know them? I do not even know the answer. I have a solution for this. Let us know the answer through this poll:

The day ended just with the right blend. . .

Para sa mga avid readers -- sana meron naman -- namin dito sa blog sana pagpasensyahan nyu ang aming kakulangan sa mga panahong ito. Kakulangan sa paghatid ng sariwang balita sa dorm at campus; kalulangan sa pag-upload ng photos; at sa kung ano pa mang kakulangang di namin nabanggit. Pasensya talaga. Ginagawa at gagawin po namin ang aming makakaya para mapanatiling updated ang site na ito. Maaari lamang po ay maintindihan nyung malapit ng magtapos ang sem. Ibig sabihin, tambak na school works at exams ang drama namin ngayon. Linggu-linggo nalang may exams at reports na kelangan ipasa. Hahay*..Dis is layp, ika nga.

Alas-kwatro pa lang gising na ang HC, at abala sa pagpo-post ng mga announcements sa naturang activity. Buong araw na gumala ang mga babae't lalaki sa dalawang wing ng buong laya. Nagtapos ang araw na ito sa isang simpleng AWARDING Program na handog ng HC.

Someday in my life I response to the stimulus of my deep emotions through my creative way of creating poem.

I am riding in a jeepney going to Iloilo City. Something in my mind pops out, a very poetic line that I have to convert into a piece of my poem. Before I reach my destination I already wrote the last stroke ok my hand.

Here is the poem that I want to share with you.

Here I am riding in a car,

Staring at the cloudy sky,

Feeling the presence of the wind,

That surrounds all over the place.

At this moment, I am thinking of you,

All the things that we used to do,

You are like SUPERMAN,

That brings weakness and pain.

Trying to forget you is all I want,

But I cannot help my self from loving you,

Maybe a rosy kryptonite is the key,

To make this dilemma go with the sea.

It is my fault that I met you,

My fault because I love you,

Only the thorn of kryptonite can save me through.

Week of One (Lingguwan)

Here came August, always the month celebrated as “Buwan ng Wika” and like anything you experience in college, “Lingguwan” was a different level of celebrating the Filipino heritage.

Day 1, 24^th of August the year 2009, I remember it clearly since it was the quietest day of my life. Every 2 hours we were required to speak a specified Filipino language or else…OR ELSE…. Since I don’t know Waray, Chavacano, Akeanon, Bisaya, Gay Linggo and Kinaray-a, which comprises ¾ of the hours, I was forced to shut my mouth for about… 12 hours each day. Such torture I did endure until the clock struck 12 midnight on Tuesday (yes 2 days of silence, that’s correct). It was fun though, listening to the others speak their native tongue and others struggle to learn. Others, like me, were just listening to how people slide the dialect from their mouths and seeing how proud they are with big grins on their faces. I myself am proud that I learned at least one phrase in Bisaya… Di-le ko maot… to anyone who understands this laugh all you want! Haha!

The following day’s activities were the Hall1mpics where everyone got a shot to play one or more Filipino games. There were games such as “Tumbang Patis”, “Luksong Baka” and my personal favorite (since it was the only game I played) “Patintero”. But *sigh* it wasn’t a perfect day because of the “goddam road” *sigh* I think you all know what I’m talking about. Still, we had fun under the sun reliving the days when we were younger and played like we didn’t have exams the following minute.

Friday… I have no words for how that day went. It was shame and adrenaline mixed all together as I suited up for my “Imelda” costume… yes, it was power dressing day wherein we dressed up according to the specifications of each wing in the dorm. You all know how Imelda dresses right? So I need no further explanations why there were mixed emotions. I don’t know how the others felt but for me, it was the stiffest day of my life. I couldn’t breathe well because my corset was tight, I couldn’t sleep because the sleeves of my Balintawak were poking out, I couldn’t walk well because I kept stepping on my skirt… it was chaos in a hot pink Filipiniana… but… I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it so much that if given a chance to pull a stunt like that again… I would…excitedly even! Hahaha!

Gabi ng mga Bituin… Night of the Stars… well of course since stars only come at night (haha Eunice haha…) but seriously speaking it was the night where we all came out and PARTIED!!! Native Filipino foods were all around and famous people graced the program such as Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino who were our emcees! (haha Eunice haha…) Imelda Marcos was there as well (ahem…) and Darna too! It was truly the night of the stars were everyone, fantasy or reality, came together to celebrate the pride of being a Filipino. A mini program was held where they showcased the different mascots of each wing of the dorm. Darna, Jasmine, Imelda Marcos, Manny Pacquiao and the Ibong Adarna strutted on the catwalk and like any other pageant, answered the question and answer portion. Talagang pinasalita naman ako ng baluktot kong Filipino. Siyempre naman… Linggo ng Wika diba…hahaha! Of course there could only be one winner even though all of the mascots were so good and I congratulate… the IBONG A-DARNA!!! What followed next was dancing all night and early morning after taking a few memorabilia of pictures. *sigh* good things DO come to an end and we had to say “enough” as we closed the “Lingguwan” celebration. But… and I hope that this is true… that after we strip off from our costumes and return to our bookish selves that we would never forget to be “Juan”… we are after all “Juan in Hall One”…HAHA... corny! Seriously speaking though… think about it. ^_^

Story Time!!

Sa umaga ng isang Biyernes, papuntang Lola’s Inn sina Carlo, Ate Alyssa, at Ate Rhonax. Sa Lola’s Inn, nagkita ang grupo kina Mamita, Kuya Justin, at Kuya Pio.

[Malapit na magtanghalian pero nagbreakfast pa rin :D]

Nagpabusog ang lahat sa masarap na pagkain na iniluto ni Lola.

Carlo: Ate, paano na yung picnic na pinagusapan natin last week? [wahehe]

Ate Rhonax: (~_~) Pwede tayu magpicnic kung gusto mo. Pwede sa Inner Court.

Mamita: Yey! Picnic! Libre ni Carlo! Pabanwa ta kung gusto mo. Pero plan muna. (^_^)

Carlo: (T_T) Waaa! Di ako makakalibre sa inyo!

Bumili ng Sab-a [Hindi yung spider web. Yung Banana.], Margarine, Sugar, Uling, Marshmallows, Barbecue Sticks, at Ice Cream[Para sa amin. Nyaks!]

Mga 3:30, nagstart na ang party. Music filled the air hanggang hindi kami makahinga unless bukas ang tainga namin.

Yung iba first time magroast ng marshmallow. Yung iba first time nagparty sa Inner Court. Yung iba first time nakarining ng word ng ginanggang. Pagkatapos magpabusog sa Ginanggang, naglaro ang Hall1 ng Chocolate! Softball with Slippers!

Kaya VS Kulob! Napunta ako sa Kaya, ang pinakamagandang group! (^_^) Pero nanalo ang Kulob… [(T_T) Ok lang… Laro lang naman.]

Natapos ng maaga ang party dahil may cheering practices ang iba pero bago sila umalis sa Hall1, ngumiti ang lahat dahil sa successful na Ginanggaanay Party ng Hall1! [Ginanggang(yung pagkain) + Anay (hindi yung langgam. Yung suffix na nilalagay after ng words to signify an event full of games) = Ginanggaanay]

Salamat Hall1 Dormers sa pagsusupport sa party! Mas papasasayahin pa namin ang sumusunod na parties! At pinakamalaking salamat kina Mamita at Kuya Pio. Kung wala sila ay hindi sana naging totoo ang party! Salamat sa inyong oras at mag-abang na lang tayo sa iba pang party nag pag-uusapan namin ni Ate Rhonax at Mamita! >:)

MY BODY

A Reflection Paper

My body is a wonderland. It has full of mysteries unsolved as I least expected. My body is complex being yet vital. But no one, even I, can really tell everything about my body. What is my body? Why I have this body? Who is my body? These questions are still in the process of identifying what the answer is.

What is my body? My body is composed of cells that group together to form tissues. These tissues are organized into different organs that will perform a specific task that will contribute to the wellness of my body physically. It is a very co

mplex thing to discuss how the smallest part of my body, the cell, is a very vital and does the most important job like the production of energy, by breaking down and combining of molecules, that will be used up by the entire body through some physical and mental activities. Also, I use my body to feel, think, eat and experience everything I want to do. I can do anything I want with my body that is how important my body is. Yet, not all the time I can rely on my body. There are times that I can abuse my body that can lead to its malfunction and negative responses. Taking good care of my body is the best thing I can do. Moreover, my body is not consistent as it is. My body changes everyday. This does not mean that I undergo morphing; this means that my body is different now than before because of the factors that affecting my well being. My body is not a thing that any one can use. Only I can use my body.

Why I have this body? What is your ideal body? Should it be Brad Pitt look-a-like? Angelina Jolie characteristics? Kissable lips? Broad shoulder? V-shaped structure? 36-24-36 vital statistic? Unfortunately, I do not have all this characteristics. My body only has the kissable lips and nothing more. Ideal body has its social standard. What is the beautiful body is dictated by the society. As a result, people, including me, want to have that ideal body that the society set. Most people do anything just to have that body. They go to the gyms to tune up their body. And if the gym cannot do anything or they are tired to go to the gym, they go to the fastest and comfortable ways to have that body like the Belo and Calayan. But I can say that somehow I am contented of what my body has. Although, there are times that I plan to go to the gym or have a daily exercise activities, but with the busy schedule that I have I cannot have them both. If I have that body, I will be proud and flaunt my body with pride. I may consider it as one of my precious possessions. But for now, I am contented of what I have, height, skin, eyes and lips. People may judge me through my body but what matters most is how I deal with them and what are the traces that I can leave to them.

Who is my body? Who posses my body? Do I really have my body? Who will take my body from me? These are very difficult questions that I may partially answer. I have my body and I posses my body. I am the dictator. I am the slave. I can tell my body what to do. My body can response about what I can do. I set the goals. My body set the limitations. I know that I am miserable but my body can tell that I have to grin. The two parts of my body, the I and the body. These two can jive with each other but sometimes they can have different faces to show. They can have two different emotions in just one instance. The body can tell you that I am happy but the I feels that I am tearing inside. You cannot posses my body neither the I. You cannot take the body from the I. I cannot have you and you cannot have me. The I posses the body and the body posses the I. Only me can have me. I can give a part of me but you cannot have all of me. My body is not like you, I am different, unique and precious.

My body is not a thing that any one can use. Only I can use my body. I am contented of what I have. People may judge me through my body but what matters most is how I deal with them and what are the traces that I can leave to them. I can give a part of me but you cannot have all of me. It will be 3 days and we'll bid goodbye to August. Time really flies by so quickly. Just imagine that 3 months had already passed since we entered the dorm -- the BEST Dorm, I must say![reminiscing mode*]
But before we totally kiss farewell to August, here is another blog entry from one of our dormers. Her article last time was, I must say, a hit! It really gained quite a number of comments. Very CONTROVERSIAL, right?[wink*] Talagang ang daming nag-react at nagbatuhan ng comments -- some were 'korni' & some were a bit serious, let them be.

JUST in Thought

Sometimes, when we’re so caught up in a moment, we forget how it truly feels to be emancipated. All we feel is the urgency to take in the present. But sometimes too, clarity sneaks in. When everything seems to find its rightful place, the world takes on a new meaning. Everything becomes illuminated, and a path never taken before opens up. And then a stupid grin starts to form on your face.

That’s what’s been happening to me lately. All those angst of the past is now somehow being overshadowed by an overwhelming sense of purpose and direction. Being giddy and happy never seemed so easy. Being joyful used to entail a strenuous effort on my part. With no apparent reason (or maybe there is one lying in my subconscious that I am obviously unaware of), I feel light, and most of all... hopeful. Weird, but nice actually. Like everything will just work out right. I know my future is riddled with so many difficulties and frustrations that are yet to be unearthed and reveal their condescending nature to me, but still, I can’t help but just be hopeful. The reason for which I may not fully understand... yet.

I don’t feel jealous about the smallest of infraction on my ego. It’s easier to laugh and smile. Not getting my way doesn’t have that same heart- crushing effect on me anymore. But most surprisingly still, I find it easy to be nice to people. I am generally nice, but I don’t generally practice it. Just afraid that people won’t reciprocate. I don’t handle rejection that well.

Today is so weird. I had this moment of clarity before. That one more naive than now. Well, it included fireworks for one. I have this sudden vision about my future. It’s so appealing to grow and mature now, when before it proved to be a threatening prospect to me.

Time indeed goes by so fast. One time, I was deeply bothered that I was about to start preschool. And now, the least of my worries involves a numerous number of long exams. It’s not like life suddenly presented a whole new meaning to me. I don’t think the answers to life’s questions come that easily.

I wish this would last. This current situation feels like finding the perfect wardrobe you’re looking for. You know you wouldn’t be the best-looking creature on earth when you wear it, but still, it’s comfortable, the perfect fit, wraps itself around you and makes everything all the better. Haha... How shallow to compare it to clothes given that I really don’t give a damn about what I wear.

Again, nothing seemed different today. Same face(s)*wink*, same places. But everything just felt right.

Group Dynamics'09: First Blast

Buhay na buhay at puno ng sigla ang mga dormers ng Bulwagang Uno (Hall1) habang idinaraos ang kanilang “SAMA-SAMANG PAGKAMATAY” o Group“Die” este Group Dy. . . namics(as quoted by Kuya Idol) . . . [toink!=)]

Kamakailan lang ay na-TEASE talaga tayo sa TEASER ng GroupDy(GD) na ginawa ni Little Pi. Kung kaya’t naging matagumpay ika nga ang di-magkamayaw na Group Discussion at Sharing noong ika-16 ng Agosto, di-ganap alas-sais ng gabi.

Perobago ang lahat, nagsalu-salo ang bawat grupo sa solidarity dinner sa hindi kalayuang lugar -- sa CITY . . . as in CITY-H [baw! soo freshie!*] at ang iba ay nasa HEAVEN lang naman . . . Heaven's Bliss. (joke pa ni nga ginatawag?!*)

Nagkalat at nag-iwan ng mga bakas ang sampung grupo sa iba't ibang sulok ng dormitoryo; may nasa lobby, sa upper wings, sa lower wings, sa annex wing, sa inner court, sa mini lib, sa CR (jowk na naman liwat!*), sa washroom(korni na guid!*).

Maraming nakatago sa baul ang sa wakas ay nabunyag at narinig nang simulan na ng mga upperclassmen ang paggisa [baw!amu guid ni ang term?*hahaha] sa mga freshmen. Hindi rin nag-atubili ang mga persyers sa pagsagot sa mga ibinabatong katanungan ng mga ate & kuya.

Naging bukas ang lahat sa pagbahagi kani-kaniyang karanasan, impresyon, katangahan, kagalingan, reklamo & hinaing, kinaiinisan, kinagagalakan at kinahuhumalingan [hmmmm...interesting*] habang tinatahak ang landas ng pamumuhay sa Miami!

Napag-usapan at nabigyang puna ang samu't saring kaganapan at mga tampuhan. Kinamusta din ang relasyon at pakitutungo ng bawat dormers sa iba't ibang kulay ng personalidad na siya nilang nakakasalamuha araw-araw. Bakas sa mukha ng bawat isa ang inis at pagkabahala habang naglalabas ng sama ng loob sa mga TERROR SUBJECTS dagdagan pa ng UBER TERROR PROFS. Pero higit sa lahat, hawang-hawa ang karamihan sa virus ng HOMESICKNESS na isa na palang epidemya.

Sa kabutihang palad, nagsusumikap ang mga kapwa Homesick na upperclass at iba pang dormers sa pag-organisa ng mga laro, picnics, at iba pang gimiks upang maisalin ang atensyon ng mga naho-homesick. Lubha ngang karaniwan na lang ang sitwasyon ng biglaang pagtulo ng luha habang kinakausap sina Nanay at Tatay sa telepono.

Pero ang GD ay hindi lang pala hanggang chismisan at kwentuhan ng nakakabagbag-damdaming karanasan. Dito rin namumulat sa mg posibleng lunas at nabibigyang payo ang bawat isa upang mapaayos at mapabuti ang buhay kolehiyo at buhay dormer ng taga-wan.

Bonggang-bongga sa lahat ang naging katuwang ng taga-wan sa pagkamit ng kanilang “goal” bilang iskolar ng bayan. Binisita ang dormitoryo ng super-adventurous na lakwatserang negra at friend – sina DORA at DORO. Sina Dora at Doro ang naging susi upang ma-set ng bawat isa ang kailangang gampanan na tungkulin upang makamit ang pangarap at inasam-asam nilang kabutihan sa buhay. (dalom buh!*)

Sa DORA-DORO Activity kung saan sila binigyan ng papel na may larawan ni Dora, para sa mga babae at Doro, para sa mga lalaki ay isinulat nila ang kanilang mga kinakailangan o steps upang makamit ang kanilang mga ‘goals’na isinulat naman nila sa isang kapirasong bubble thought na construction paper. Ang Bubble Thought na ito kung saan may nakasulat na numero sa likod ang basihan upang mahanap nila ang kanilang promise partners. Ang “PROMISE PARTNERS” ang magsisilbing katuwang at tagapaala-ala ng bawat isa upang siguradong maisagawa ang mga pangakong binitiwan para makamit ang minimithi. Para silang si Yaya & Angelina, si Mata & si Kamay, si Juan & si Pedro, si Katawan & si Konsensya . . . etc.

Sa Big Group bandang alas-9 ng gabi, ipinagdiriwang din ng mga dormers ang “Sabayang Kapanganakan” ng mga may kaarawan mula Hunyo hanggang Agosto 16. Katakam-takam na Choco Topps at (kandilang)Stick-o ang naging handa at inialay sa mga celebrator. Nakuha pa ni Ate Gelai ang pinakamahabang Stick-O (pinakalip-ot guro!*). Pinagsaluhan naman ng mga non-celebrator ang isang bald eng biskwet ‘that comes in different sizes & shapes’ . . . Yehey!!!

Nabulabog ang kukote at katinuan ng taga ODD at EVEN team nang magtunggalian sa larong Pinoy Henyo. Ni hindi na alam ng isa kung ano ang balat sa tinalupan. Matatandaang ang sagot ni Renan ay “NO” sa tanong na “Tao ba si Kyle?”; naging lugar ang TV at dispenser; at naging place pa si Manong Larry. (Ate Gelai, daw mini lib man 'to!*)

Higit sa lahat, bonggang CONGRATULATIONS at Palakpakan dahil DRAW lang naman ang resulta ng laro sa pagitan ng dalawang grupo. (Bawi sa pahampang!*)

Pero uber bungga jud na CONGRATULATIONS at Standing ovation ang ating igawad para sa kooperasyon ng bawat dormers dahil sa matagumpay ang ating Group Dynamics, napagtibay at lalo pang mapapabongga ang buhay Holwan ng isang iskolar ng bayan. [Ayyyy...grabeh....!*]

sobrang nainggit ako...

nagmasid lang muna ako...

sobra akong nag-enjoy sa mga sandaling iyon...

hindi dahil sa nakapaglaro akong muli ng dodgeball...

kundi dahil sa nakasama kong maglaro ang mga taong bihira ko lang makasalamuha...

More Than Ninoy’s day, it’s TACARDON’s DAY

This day is not just any ordinary day. Yes! The Philippines is celebrating Ninoy Aquino’s historical death. But here in Lampirong, we are celebrating TACARDON’s – The Great Tacardon(head’s up*) -- DAY!

On the 21^st of August, 1988 an icon of greatness was born. JOEFER TACARDON. By greatness, we mean extra-super-talented & smart. But these words aren’t enough to describe the legacy that Kuya Joefer has left in the campus, in the dorm, and especially in the hearts of the many people whose lives he touched in his simple yet powerful way.

Kaya, Kuya Joefer, ‘karapat-dapat ka lang i-clap-clap’! (Woohoo*)

Magta-tatlong buwan pa lang kami dito sa dorm, pero dama namin ang kaibahan sa pagkawala ng presensya ng mga tinagurian naming “Pillars ng Hall1” – Ate Maan, Kuya Ujin, at Kuya Joefer. Sa mga saglit na usapan at pagtitipun-tipon, hindi nawawala kailanman sa isipan naming ang mga bagay na palagiang ginagawa nila sa mga ganoong pagkakataon. Sa tuwing tatambay kami sa canopy bigla nalang may sasambit ng, “Ahay…nadumduman ko sina ate maan kag kuya joef ah…ang drama2x nila nga duha…hidlaw nako ah…”. Oh… God knows how we super miss them.

If I’m not mistaken, 21 ka na. So that makes you an official member of the bachelor society.[haha*] Congrats! May full legal access ka na sa kayamanan ng iyong pamilya’t angkan. (Woohoo!*)

Para sa akin, tumatak talaga ang pangalang JOEFER TACARDON sa aking isipan. Sila na ang kinamulatan naming upperclass dito sa dorm; Ang nagbibigay buhay sa weekend-blues ng dorm; Ang suki ng couch tuwing lingo para manood ng ASAP; Ang main actor ng drama series sa dorm. Nakakamiss!

Kuya Joefer, saksi kami sa iyong pagsusumikap para makarating ka sa iyong kinaroroonan ngayon, at alam naming malayo pa iyong mararating. Sana hindi mo kami makalimutan dahil kailanman ay hindi ka mawawala sa aming puso’t isipan.

I'm just so proud of this girl for staying charming in spite of all the odds.[smiles*]
I could see the diversity when it comes to the personalities naman kasi sa dorm, and talagang each one ha their own persona. Some, they still hide it, or maybe they're just not aware of it, but when the right time comes for sure they'll all bloom like a lovely flower in the wild. [hmmm... how was that?]

The Things We Lost To Love and Faith

I should have been happy this week. A lot of things and happenings had given me temporary joy. But that’s just it, TEMPORARY!

An elder friend once shared to me a story that had a moral attached to it. She said there were four things you could never take back: a stone thrown away, a time spent, a word that was spoken, and an opportunity not taken.

I just might have lost all of these in one day, and I can never take them back again. I’m always wishing I didn’t have to do the things I did. The things I’ve said are now part of my deepest regrets, the hurt they’ve caused that need not be the case if I knew the virtue of tolerance. I want to stop thinking I’m better than everybody else, because I know I’m not. I wish I could stop wishing to be the opposite of who I am, because no matter how much the world and circumstances would change, I’m still bound to be the same. Because that’s who I made myself out to be— someone incapable of change. Sure, I sometimes take the first step, an effort towards the process of making a better me. But not long after do I revert back to my old self again.

I no longer want to be the person I think I am. I want to know that I am capable of goodness, and that people would believe that too. Because that’s all I need, for people to take a look at me and never have to wonder who I am, or who I am pretending to be.

The more I seem to loathe others, the more I get hurt because all the things I say about them are just reflections of who I am. I tend to hurt people for all the unnecessary reasons, and I’d like to say I don’t mean it, but people never do things that are not embedded in their subconscious. I easily turn people away, and I am not on top of anybody’s list for anything. I may wear the bravest facade in a crowd, but I am a coward. I have so many what-could-have-beens, most of which I could have done something to make them happen. But I was busy pretending I could conquer the world, and that everything and everyone will just have to wait for me. Who was I kidding? I had the world at my feet temporarily, and it got into my head. And now that my time’s over, I still can’t adapt to the changes it brings. I still feel so self-important at times, and it gets in the way of how I am with people, or how I am with the simple things that bring happiness yet I chose to overlook.

I must be lucky some people stick with me, that I am not completely devoid of acquaintances; that I am still somehow tolerable to be with. Maybe people say bad things about me or talk behind my back or have negative impressions about me, but at least I haven’t personally heard or overheard any.

People say I am different. I would trade anything to be just like anybody else on a given day. I don’t want to be popular or great; I just want to be happy and contended. Somehow, I couldn’t find these things, and so I substitute happiness and contentment with temporary highs that greatness brings. And when I’m all drained and burned out, all that’s left is emptiness and loneliness. And then I start from scratch again, picking up the pieces from the last time I was shattered.

All I want is all that I don’t have. Not because they’re expensive or hard to come by. I just want someone who’d have me on their mind all the time. Someone who’d be excited to sit next to me in class. Someone who’d reveal a secret and say I’m the first to know. A beautiful picture that captures a beautiful moment. A secret feat I could be proud of. A best friend I could talk to anytime, anywhere. A place I could enter and say “I’m home”. Someone who’s always happy to see me. I need a warm hug, a kind word, a gentle touch, a modest recognition. Someone. Anyone.

I know my story is an overrated one. It’s been written and rewritten countless times. It’s the plot of the greatest self-pity story. It’s the soundtrack of a broken record. It’s the hymn of the misunderstood. It’s the lifeline of the half-dead. All these for a good reason. Because it can be anybody, a nobody. It could be the subplot of misery and hurt, or easily a reason for existence. Whatever it is or may be, we’re all bound to feel it. That darkness that creeps in unknowingly.

So here’s the choice: We stay in the dark or find the light. ‘Cause here’s what I’ve been told: “The darkness doesn’t have any answers. The thing they say about pain, hurt, and all that garbage being romantic and poetic? It’s just garbage and pain. And the day you think that love is overrated is the day that you’re wrong. And the only thing wrong with love and faith is to not have them.”

I want to grasp love of the purest, and immerse myself in the immensity of faith. I want to be at peace with my inner battles, the conflicts that arise from my troubled past. I want to feel safe and assured that I may not have everything I want but I have everything I need because I am capable of loving another human being, and that in return, I am worthy of their love too.

Bahagyang naalarma ang lahat, lalo na ang mga sangkot, nang maiulat na nakarating at naireport sa OSA ang tungkol sa DOTA Tournament. Nag-ugat ang lahat sa pagpo-post ng isang taga-Kanlaon, na itago na lamang natin sa pangalang spyheadTM, ng isang imbitasyon sa mga taga-Hall1 sa isang DOTA Tournament. Nasundan pa ng 3 postings ang mga ito na nagpapaliwanag na hindi niya -- SpyheadTM, intensyung maghamon ng gulo. Isa lamang daw iyung friendly game. Dahil nga sa tinatawag nating generation gap namis-interpret ni Maam Tronco kung ano ang ibig iparating ng mga posts na iyun kaya inireport ito sa OSA. Kinabukasan, ipinatawag si Nina, Hall1 HC President, ni Maam Isay. Naipaliwanag naman ng maayos ang mga bagay-bagay. Nalinaw na ang kaso. Isang simpleng online game lamang naman iyun sa pagitan ng mga Kanlaon&Lampirong boys. [bow*]

At talagang nakadiscover pa kami ng mga extra-talented people hah. Ay super! Da best talaga ang "sliding talen" ni Zemrec! Imagine, kahit anong posisyon sa pagslide -- side slide, back slide, hapla-slide, kaya nya. No sweat! Idol talaga! Kaya karapat-dapat lamang syang i-clap2x. Banggaanay'09: HALL1 vs. Hall2

Game Result: Tie! Score: 0-0.

In my own point view, dapat nakascore nun ang Hall1. Dalawang beses [ayun dito sa katabi ko -- Pio] raw yun naka-goal ang Hall1 team. Masyadong maluwag ang ref. Ilang beses na hindi tinawagan ng hand ball ang kabilang team. ('Wag ideny. Nakita nyu at nating lahat 'yun.) Oh well, in the end, proud akong sabihin na talagang maganda ang larong ipinakita ng Hall1 team. Super galing! Grabeh ang cooperation ng bawat isa, laban sa one-man-team ng kabila. At kung may cheering competition sa Banggaanay, walang duda, HALL1 ang PANALO! Sa boses pa lang ni Mamita sabog lahat ng nasa paligid. No wonder distracted at threatened ang kalaban! Oh di bah! Strategy na tinatawag 'yan, dude! Talagang full force ang Hall1 pipz -- present & former dormers talagang nagka-isa, sa pagcheer at pagsupurta sa players! Dinagsa nilang lahat ang grandstand. Thank you sa mga ate at kuya naming tumulong at sumupurta sa pagcheer! You're the best!

CHAMPION pa rin sa puso at damdamin ang Hall1 magpakailanman. Go Hall1!

It's the 4th of August already. . .[hahay*]
There have been so many things that had happen this past few months and weeks.

Ayh!Teka lang. Kasasabi ko lang eh. Agosto na. . .'Buwan ng Wika' na, kaya nararapat lamang magsalita tayo gamit ang ating pinakamamahal na wika. Simulan na natin.

Lokasyon: Kasalukuyan akong nasa Com Lab 2 ngayon, at dahil tapos na ako sa "lab exercise", tatambay muna ako dito sa "site". [ngiti*]

Kagabi lang ay muling nagtipun-tipon ang mga residente ng Hall1 sa bulwagan ng dormitoryo. Ito na ang pangalawang pagtitipon o "General Assembly (GA)" na pinangunahan ng mga opisyales ng dormitoryo. Pinag-usapan kagabi ang mga aktibidades sa buwang ito --- selebrasyon ng Buwan ng Wika. Naging maayos naman ang nangyaring GA at alisto ang mga residente sa pakikinig at pagtatanong ng mga bagay-bagay tungkol sa napag-usapan.

Nang hapon ng araw na iyon din ay nagaganap ang pinaka-aabangang laro ng taon sa "football field". Ganap na alas-singko ng hapon ng magsimulang magtipon ang mga residente ng Hall1 sa "grandstand" upang tunghayan ang kinasasabikang laban sa "football" ng BALAY LAMPIRONG at Balay Kanlaon. Nagpatupad ng "NO-Person-Policy" ang "house council" sa dormitoryo upang lahat ay dumalo at manood ng laban sa "field". Naging maiinit ang labanan lalo pa't agresibo ang parehong kampo. Talagang nakakapanabik, nakakatawa, nakakainis, at nakakatuwa ang laro. Grabe ang tulakan at gitgitan. Walang sinasanto ang kabilang grupo, kahit babae binabangga ng todo. Ganyan katindi ang tensyon ng laban kahapon. Kaya ganuon na lamang din ang putik na bumalot sa kanilang katawan. [haha*] Halos 'di ka na makakurap sa bilis ng sipaan ng bawat kampo. Kitang-kita lahat ng aksyon pati panta-tsansing ng iba dyan. Talagang todo habol at dikit sa ating gwaping na manlalaro.[alam nyu na kung sino sya...at wala ng iba pa...wink!*]

Pero ang kinamamangahaan ko sa lahat ay ang pamatay na boses ni MAMITA. Si Mamita pa lang isang buong field dinig na -- walang "effort". [hehe] Kung may paligsahan sa "cheering", tiyak panalo tayong Hall1. Sa lakas ba naman ng boses, patikan, palakpakan at hiyawan ng mga residente at pati na rin ng mga dating residente noon, talagang walang kaduda-dudang panalo tayo! Go Holwan!!!!!

Naging maganda ang laro ng ating mga pambatong persyers. At talagang naipakita ng Holwan ang kanilang pagkakaisa sa laro kahapon. Natapos ang laro na walang nakapuntos kahit isa sa magkabilang grupo. Hindi na ako magsasalita sa "technicalities" ng laro para walang kontrobersya. Basta, ang pinakmahalagat naging MASAYA, NAGTULUNGAN at NAGKAISA ang lahat.

Isang masigabong palakpakan para sa lahat ng mga taga-holwan!!!!!

P.S. Lalong nagpaganda sa laro kahapon ang ideyang puro "freshmen" lang lahat ang naglaro at walang halong "upperclass". Talagang dalawang hinlalaking nakataas para sa ating lahat. [ngiti.*]

Let me begin this with an apology to everyone. I am not even sure if this article would be appropriate for this site. I hope this would not bring any trouble to anyone. I just noticed that no one has ever done this thing in this shared online journal. I wanted to become different in some particular way but as much as possible I would try not to lose the essence of this site. This still has something to do with a dormer’s personal experiences and perhaps an activity, lovesome activity in the dormitory.

I was associated in an exclusive sexual relationship when I entered this freshman dormitory. We were thousand miles away from each other. So I have to make ways to endure the long distance like constant communication. I did not care about the phone bill. LOL. I thought it was just easy as reminding ourselves how much we were so in love. I never expected that it would be more difficult if you are confined in a paradise filled with female deities. Yeah, you’re right. What would you expect if you are residing in the House of Glamour? Of course, you would be forced to live with very effective mantraps, ladies that would make our pants hot.

I met this girl. We had the same future goals. I have not even felt even once that there is a gulf between the both of us. Without the gulf of ambition, we were like growing together. When she is around, I really feel better. I love how we learn new things everyday and take daily walk around the campus. She really was like a sweet song of the lark. She is the soul mate I have always dreamed about. She is… Let us just keep her name a secret or better call her ‘Baleleng’ (na sa kanya, ako’y nahuhumaling). My goodness, My word. Haha, To those who know her, please stop wagging your tongues. Chew the Fat. Dish the Dirt. Shoot the Breeze.

I really treasure our moments together. That slightest touch which lingers in my skin, it feels like an angel caressing me from within. That tingling feeling seeing those cute little eyes sparkling, Oh My GOD, she’s really the apple of my eyes. My day isn’t complete without a glimpse of her. I even grab those little opportunities of spending time with her in the mini library – studying our lessons together; doing our assignments together; discussing our reports together; ONLY me & her TOGETHER. It is in these moments that little-evil-thoughts were playing in my mind. Damn! I was so tempted to close and lock the door behind [para walang disturbo. smiles]. She was there in front of me . We’re just inches away from each other. I could feel her warmth and her breath with every word she utters. Those cute little cherry-red lips which feels like telling me to draw more closer and closer . . . and . . . Ooops! Wake up, Justin! Oh God! Why those lips are made so tender?

I always look forward to spending more time with her (only with her), that even around a lot of company I still flawlessly manage to find a way to reserve the back seat of the tricycle for the two of us on our ride back to the dorm. I was never absent whenever there are stress-relieving-happy-treats at OMPS with our friends, or asunset-watching-picnic at OWL. Sitting beside her just feels no less than heaven. Konti nalang at magkalapit na ang mga kamay namin. I just need to find an excuse to hold them. Think! Quick! I just can perfectly imagine the two of us holding hands together. That would be so damn great! I swear I would never let go. Sometimes, I can’t help myself to steal some moments with those late afternoon walk on our way back to the dorm. Imagine the agony I’m feeling when she’s already walking beside me then the cool afternoon breeze suddenly blows her shiny black hair accidentally brushing my face. Oh yeah! Thank you to this flirt wind for making me realize that a heavenly maiden is with me, and she’s only beside me, not into me. That beautifully tasted scent of her, it just takes my breath away.

Because of these things, it made me ask questions like should I learn to throw in the towel, move on and forget what I am feeling? I was confused emotionally. It even brought me to a point where I have to decide whether or not to stay in my present relationship. It was so sickening, upsettingly emotional. It gave me doubts about our relationship. This was a decision not to be taken too lightly. I am so sorry for having sudden unpredictable change. It is human nature. It is not wrong. Right, boys? Oh God, help me.

Even though I hate to admit this, sometimes, friends should never become couples. Dammit. After looking at things thoughtfully, I just decided that we would be more loving as friends. This was not a failure for me. She was just a test. We were just not meant to be. This was just a way for me to learn how to discipline myself and know the borderline between fidelity and cheating. Most of all, I should not show an exaggerated response to these thrills of attraction and conclude right away for I am about to lose the chance to think gently. Who knows? It might be just a false alarm.

Balay Lampirong? It is not just a place where you can find a family. For some, it could be a place where you can feel the temptation and weakening of your will power. It could be a place where you feel the inclination to do something you should stave off. It is a perfect place to test your virtues as a human being. How about you? Do you have morality when it comes to sexual relations? We will see. I hope you will never get caught. Good luck boys.

Mga Cream-O, Safari at Demolino ang kagat-kagat ng mga persyers na nasa lobby. [Wow!]

Oo nga naman! Pagkaupo agad sa posisyon aksyon agad!

Nakakatuwang panoorin ang eksaytment nina Carlo at [bespren] Christian sa pagbebenta ng mga chocolates nila. Sino nga naman ang hindi bibili sa paninda nila, eh bukod sa masarap naman talaga, super mapilit at makulit ang dalawa. [haha! Nakakaawa naman…*]

Eksena 1 (Ate Rachell, Carlo & Christian sakay ng tricycle mula banwa pauwi ng dorm)

Rachell(R): Saan kayo galing?

Carlo&Christian(C&C):Sa Green Ribbon.

R: Wow!

C&C: We bought some chocolates to give away to our dormates tonight and ask them to vote for us. [english speaking kasi 'tong dalawang magbespren kaya ganyan*]

R: Nooooooooo!!!!!Hindi ‘yan pwede.

C&C: Really, ate?

R: Yeah. That’s vote buying. You shouldn’t do that. [lumi-level sa english si ate..hehe]

C&C: Ahh..OK.

Kaya, the next day, naisipan ng dalawang ibenta nalang ang mga binili nila para panimulang fund ng house council. IGP agad. [bungga! wink*]

Dear freshie,

Hello dearies. I’m Charisse. Or may I say, your ate Char. I’m an alumna [this word makes me sound really old] of the best-est dorm in the whole UP-niverse, *drum roll* Balay Lampirong Freshmen Hall 1. I am now in UP-Diliman, but oh no, I will never forsake this dorm. So here I am! I have a [not-so-short] story to tell you dear freshie.

Not so long ago, I was one of the amazing, incredible, talented, beautiful, intelligent, [insert egotistical adjective here] centennial batch of Hall 1 dormers. I once inhabited room 102 with my obsessive-compulsive, extraordinary roommate and my over-achieving room-hopper-mate [You know who you are]. Every room in hall 1 has a story to tell. Ours was a story of daily slumber parties, gossip girl marathons [it was the fad during our batch], girl talks and endless episodes of coffee dependency especially during finals week. Just like you guys and girls, I walked those corridors, bathed in the shower room, slept in that bed, studied in that carrel, paged with that ancient paging system, partied in the multi-functional lobby, hydrated with that dispenser, made coffee with the overused heater, did my vanity in that lobby mirror and walked in and out of the glass doors of hall 1 every single day. I also have my share of [short-lived] dorm crushes, spine-tingling “ghost” experiences and pasaway moments that until now, only a single soul knows.

Oh well. My reminiscing of my hall 1 memories has practically took up the introductory part of this blog post. I bet you got bored reading my nostalgia and skipped to this part. That’s alright. It’s just that there are too many great and wonderful things to write about hall 1. But I must go to the very core of this blog post. The part where I tell you one of the few good decisions I did while I was a freshman. And that was the decision of becoming a part of the House Council. I was the Liaison Officer of Balay Lampirong House Council 2008-2009.

When I decided to run for office, I had no clear idea what I’d get myself into. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision. Ten teenagers were given this enormous task on their tiny, inexperienced hands. We were like a dull pencils being sharpened. We had to face real-life issues- money matters, internal conflict, apathy of dormers- that altogether forced us to act and think as young adults with responsibilities. Every activity was like a huge hurdle that we had to conquer. Being in the House Council was an additional 12 units. Haha! I have to say that I’ll carry as a status symbol the success of the Lampirong Days during our batch. It was a time in my life that exhaustion became my friend because I was already used to it. I'd return to my room like a lantang gulay. Even in my dreams, I'd still think about the activities we'd have to plan. And yes, dear freshies, I lost weight during the preparation week of Lampirong Days. It was that crucial. I became a House Council major.

But at the end of the day, it was all worth it. All the gallons of sweat I perspired, the creative juices I excreted, the number of hours of sleep I gave up were all paid off. At the end of the year, I’ve found friends in my fellow House Council members. Through the storms, we somehow found good company in each other. I found the better version of me. I learned to use my initiative, to work with different personalities, to work under time pressure, to practice professionalism and most importantly, I learned to become a leader. I survived being a House Council without sacrificing my academics and I sure do deserve I pat on the back. It's a bragging right!

I have bigger responsibilities as a student leader right now, but the core values I learned in being a House Council officer help me every step of the way. Being in the House Council made me realize I am capable of leading and achieving if I give my heart into what I am doing and If I sincerely go the extra mile.

Sooo, to the Balay Lampirong House Council 2009-2010, I hope you get inspired and encouraged with my story. Awaken the leadership potentials in you! You go gerrl! Remember the parable of Talents in Matthew 25 and bear in mind that being in the House Council is a stepping stone in growing those talents you have in you. Whatever burden you have, there is a God that is so much bigger than your problems. I congratulate you for taking the lead. Being the wallfower is boring. So step it up guys. You have a long way to go! ((:
